Terms of Use
These terms are between you and Matter Development (“we”, “us”), who make Wayback. By using the app or this website, you agree to them. We’ve kept them in plain words.
These terms are being reviewed and may be refined before Wayback launches. Any change will be dated here.
Using Wayback
Wayback is a location-history timeline for iPhone. It needs no account, and everything it records stays on your iPhone, as our privacy policy explains. Recording, the Day timeline for the last 30 days, place fixes, the evening summary, Recording health and export are free.
Wayback Plus
- Wayback Plus adds your full history, Google Timeline import, photos and calendar events at each visit, search and stats.
- It is $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year, each a subscription that renews automatically until you cancel, or $79.99 once for lifetime access that never renews. The yearly plan may start with a 7-day free trial if you’re eligible; if you don’t cancel during the trial, the first year is charged when it ends.
- Apple takes payment and renews a subscription at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, in Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Cancelling keeps Plus until the end of the period you paid for.
- Prices on this website are US prices; the App Store shows yours, in your currency, before you buy. Refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, under Apple’s rules.
- Family Sharing works with the yearly and lifetime plans. Restore a purchase on a new iPhone from Wayback’s Settings, signed in with the same Apple Account.
- If Plus ends, days older than 30 days are locked, not deleted, and export stays free: you can always take all of your data with you.
Your data is yours
Your places, visits, journeys, notes and imports belong to you, and we claim no rights over them. Because they live only on your iPhone, keeping them safe is in your hands: keep your iPhone backed up, or export a Wayback file from time to time. We hold no copy, so we can’t recover history that’s been deleted or lost with a device.
When you import a Google Timeline export, you confirm it is your own history, or that you have the right to use it. Google Timeline is a trademark of Google LLC; Wayback is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
What a timeline can and can’t tell you
Wayback works out places, times and journeys from what your iPhone reports, which can be late, imprecise or missing (in Low Power Mode, indoors, with no signal, or when a permission is off). Place names come from Apple Maps and may be wrong until you fix them. So a timeline is a personal record, not proof: don’t rely on it for navigation, safety, emergencies, legal or employment evidence, or anything where an error could hurt someone.
Fair use
- Use Wayback to keep your own history. Don’t use it to track or record another person without their knowledge and consent, and follow the law where you are.
- Don’t try to break, overload or get around the protections of the app or this website, and don’t copy, resell or reverse-engineer the app beyond what the law allows.
- Don’t use the support form to send spam, or anything that’s unlawful or that you have no right to share.
Ownership
Wayback, its design, illustrations and code belong to Matter Development. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store allows. The fonts on this website are used under their own open licences.
Liability
We work to keep Wayback accurate and available, but it is provided “as is”, without a promise that it will be free of errors or always work. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for lost data, or for decisions made by relying on a timeline. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid for Wayback in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits the rights consumer law gives you where you live, or our liability where the law doesn’t allow it to be limited.
The App Store
Your licence to use the app is also governed by Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These terms are between you and us, not Apple; Apple is not responsible for Wayback or for supporting it, we are. Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as third-party beneficiaries.
Ending
You can stop using Wayback at any time by deleting it. We may stop offering Wayback or change its features; if we ever end it, we’ll give notice in the app and keep export working so you can take your history with you.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top changes with every edit, and if a change matters to you, we’ll say so in the app or on this page before it applies.
